Pearson's Crystal Data: Update Page
Once you have obtained one or more Pearson's Crystal Data (PCD) licenses, you should
visit this page from time to time. If any bugfixes or (minor) improvements are available,
you can download the concerning files from here.
Important:
Please note that the mentioned updates only refer to the software for a given database
release. Since there are several database releases, there are different
update files for the different database releases. You should check your software
version in PCD under "Help/Software info..." before
you install the update!
Updates of data are not available free-of-charge but can be requested
here.
Release 2023/24
There is a corrected version 2.7b of the main executable "PCD.exe" available, released on May 28, 2024:
1) Make a backup copy of your PCD main executable "PCD.exe", which is located in
the PCD program directory, i.e. normally "C:\Program Files\Pearsons Crystal Data\" or "C:\Program Files\Pearsons Crystal Data (x86)\".
2) Download the ZIP file (see link below), extract the file "PCD.exe", and copy
that new version of "PCD.exe" into the PCD program directory. (You need administrator
rights for that. Check, if the file has been replaced successfully, due to several warnings by
Windows to be cautious when copying or moving files into or from a program directory.)

Release 2017/18
There is a version 2.1c available containing a corrected main executable "PCD.exe" as well as a newer
version of "Structure Tidy" with new files "Stidy.exe", "Spgr.dat", and "Sets.dat". The release date
is July 31, 2019. It repairs the bug that unit cell reduction and standardization calculations
(that use the program "Structure Tidy") could not be operated on most (modern) Windows platforms.
Standardization and calculation of the Niggli-reduced cell are available through the command "Convert crystallographic data" in the "Tools" menu.
1) Make a backup copy of your PCD main executable "PCD.exe", which is located in
the PCD program directory, i.e. normally "C:\Program Files\Pearsons Crystal Data\" or "C:\Program Files\Pearsons Crystal Data (x86)\".
2) Download the ZIP file (see link below), extract the containing files:
-
"PCD.exe",
-
"PCD.chm" (the online help file),
-
"Stidy.exe" (the Structure Tidy executable),
-
"Spgr.dat", "Sets.dat" (data files for Structure Tidy).
Copy these files into the PCD program directory. (Note: You need administrator
rights for that. Check, if the files have been replaced successfully, due to several warnings by
Windows to be cautious when copying or moving files into or from a program directory.)

Release 2015/16
There is a corrected version 1.9b of the main executable "PCD.exe" available,
released on November 18, 2015. It repairs the following bugs:
• A bug that occurred on some Windows 10
computers when you click on a row in a list in a "Quest dialog" (opened from the
"Selection criteria" or "Quick search" dialog), e.g. the list of authors.
• An abnormal program termination caused by an internal buffer overflow when collecting
the entries with the same entry prototype, e.g. for entry #552719.
1) Make a backup copy of your PCD main executable "PCD.exe", which is located in
the PCD program directory, i.e. normally "C:\Program Files\Pearsons Crystal Data\".

Release 2011/12
The latest available version of PCD software is version 1.5b, released
on June 11, 2012. This version is a maintenance release that repairs some bugs:
1) Most of oxidation numbers (of cations, especially d-elements) were not accessible
for search.
2) Data sheet did not differentiate, if multiple types of anisotropic displacement
parameters appeared in one and the same table, e.g. some atom sites use B (or beta),
some other 2B (or 2beta, rsp.)
3) In some quest dialogs, e.g. "Include entries with assigned coordinates", there
were two choices: "Yes" and "No"- but neither "Yes" nor "No" readable.
4) The quest dialog for the search for atomic environments showed some wrong "most
frequently occurring atomic environments".
Important! You must have installed the update 1.5a *before* you install the
version 1.5b update, because the 1.5b update file does not contain all the database
files already included in update 1.5a! Check the software version number of your
Pearson's Crystal Data release: "Help" -> "Software info".
Download PCD_update15b.exe
(June 11, 2012 - 20,156 KB - Readme.txt)
Another update of PCD software is version 1.5a, released
on December 5, 2011. This version is a maintenance release that repairs two bugs:
1) The list of journals/codens was not available, neither from "Quick search" nor
from "Selection criteria" dialog. Even if you entered the journal coden manually
into the edit field beneath "Journal", the search/criterion failed.
2) The link to the original publication (from the data sheet, cf. "Link to related
databases" section at bottom) failed because the journal coden could not be resolved
for that task.
Customers of release 2011/12 who are still using software version 1.5 should download
the following software patch:
Download PCD_update15a.exe
(December 5, 2011 - 489,376 KB - Readme.txt)
Release 2010/11
The latest available version of PCD software is version 1.4, created
on June 25, 2010 (cf. "Help"/"Software info..."). There is no update available yet for release 2010/11.
Release 2009/10
The latest available version of PCD software is version 1.3d, released
on June 30, 2010. This version is a maintenance release where the URL syntax to
an external link has to be changed, cf. "Known Bugs" page.
Customers of release 2009/10 who are still using software version 1.3, 1.3a, 1.3b, or 1.3c should download the following
software patch:
Download PCD_update13d.exe
(June 30, 2010 - 34,644 KB)
Release 2008/9
The latest available version of PCD software is version 1.2d, released
on June 30, 2010.
Customers of release 2008/9 who are still using software version 1.2, 1.2a, 1.2b, or 1.2c, should download the following
software patch:
Download PCD_update12d.exe
(June 30, 2010 - 2,412 KB)
Release 2007/8
The latest available version of PCD software is version 1.0g, released
on June 30, 2010.
Customers of release 2007/8 who already obtained version 1.0c,
1.0d, 1.0e, or 1.0f, should download the following software
patch:
Download PCD_update10g.exe
(June 30, 2010 - 2,412 KB)
Important: Customers who are still using an older software version 1.0, 1.0a,
or
1.0b,
must install the update to version 1.0c first, because some of the data
files have changed between version 1.0b and 1.0c! (In this version not only software bugs have been repaired
but also a lot of authors (incl. department, university, city, country) have been
added that were missing in the previous versions. These address fields could not
be searched for and were not displayed in the data sheet.)

(April 8, 2008 - 359,648 KB)
Downloading and installation instruction
To download and install an update, you should follow these steps:
- If PCD software is running, please close it.
- Download the update file "PCD_update1XX.exe" by clicking the appropriate link above
and then start
the automatic update installation with double-click on the downloaded executable
file, or directly run it from here.
- The WinZip self-extractor will open and automatically start the "Crystal Impact
Update Installer".
- After the installation you will be prompted to close all open PCD windows. (There
should be no such windows when you followed step #1.)
- Finally the PCD software will be started in order to check, if the update has been
successfull. This version should now list the updated software version number
in the "Help/Software info..." dialog.
Note: If you encounter a download problem, please try again or contact
pcd-support@crystalimpact.com.
Users of the demonstration version cannot use the above mentioned update but should
uninstall the old and then download and install the latest demo version. (See link
to demo version on the left.)
New
bugs are collected on our "Known
Bugs" page,
where you can also find a list of previously repaired bugs.
