Installing Match! on Linux (Intel 64-bit system and glibc 2.27 or later required) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please download the corresponding compressed installer file ("Match-3-linux-x64-installer.run.zip") from https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#download Once the download has finished, please uncompress the zip-file into some temporary directory. Check that the file access permissions show that the file "Match-3-linux-x64-installer.run" can be executed. If this is not the case, please run the command chmod a+x Match-3-linux-x64-installer.run In addition, you need to install the software as "root" (administrator privileges required). In order to do so, either run a "su" command before running the installer (file "Match-3-linux-x64-installer.run"), or use "sudo", e.g. by running sudo ./Match-3-linux-x64-installer.run When the installer is running, please follow the instructions on the screen, and note the terms of the "End User License Agreement", which will appear in the second dialog box! If an error message "Match! cannot be run on this computer for some unknown reason" is displayed during the installation, please run the command "/opt/Match3/Match" in a terminal window and check the error messages that are displayed. When the installation has finished, please run Match!. This can be done e.g. by selecting "(Computer/)Applications/Other/Match!", or by running the script "Match.sh" in the directory where the software has been installed (which is "/opt/Match3" by default). 2. Time-limited license ----------------------- As long as no license is installed, Match! will run in the "60 days evaluation mode", which basically means that it will stop working 60 days after it has first been installed. You have to purchase a license to continue working with Match! afterwards. 3. License Purchasing ----------------------- You can get all information about the various licensing and pricing options for Match! here: https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/sales.htm Licenses can also be purchased in our online store (e.g. for credit card or PayPal payments): https://shop-crystalimpact.de/en/c/match 4. License Installation ----------------------- Once you have purchased and obtained a license file for Match!, you can install it as follows: If the demonstration version has already expired, Match! will ask you to install a license. otherwise please run the "Install new license..." command from the "Help" menu. You will be asked to select the license file (either "license_Match!.zip" or "yourlicense.lic") that you have received by e-mail after purchasing the license. Please confirm elevation (you may have to enter your administrator password). Your license will now be installed and registered automatically. Next time you run Match!, your license data should be displayed at the bottom of the splash screen (at program startup), in the status bar at the bottom, and finally in the "About Match!" dialog which can be opened from the "Help" menu. 5. Installation of FullProf software ------------------------------------ Match! can use the well-known software "FullProf" (J. Rodriguez-Carvajal, Physica B. 192, 55 (1993); https://www.ill.eu/sites/fullprof) to run Rietveld refinement calculations. If you would like to use this feature, you have to install FullProf (at least if it is not already present on your machine): Match! requires FullProf release February 2018 (or later) for Rietveld refinement on Linux. You can download and install FullProf from the Crystal Impact web page https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#download_fp As an alternative, you can also do this directly from the FullProf web page (where you will also find detailed installation instructions): https://www.ill.eu/sites/fullprof/php/downloads.html Simply follow the download and installation instructions given there for the Linux platform. 6. Reference Pattern Database ----------------------------- Match! identifies phases in a sample by comparing its powder diffraction pattern to reference patterns of known phases. Hence, it needs a so-called "reference database" in which these reference patterns are provided. There are several options for obtaining a reference database: Match! is by default installed along with the COD-Inorganics reference database. This database contains powder diffraction patterns calculated from inorganic crystal structure data (compounds without C-H-bonds)), taken from the COD ("Crystallography Open Database", https://www.crystallography.net ). This reference database is especially appropriate if you are typically analyzing inorganic or mineral samples. If you are rather working with organic compounds, you can download and install the full COD reference database from https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/download.htm#refdb All entries of the COD reference databases contain atomic coordinates, based on which the corresponding powder diffraction patterns have been calculated. Besides this, for all entries, I/Ic-values have been calculated, so that a semi-quantitative analysis can be performed straight away. As an alternative to the COD reference databases, you can also apply your own diffraction patterns or crystal structure data in phase identification, by importing them into a so-called "user database" (https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/help/idh_userdatabase.htm ). This user database can then be used for the creation of a new reference database, either alone or in combination e.g. with the standard COD reference database. 7. Videos and Documentation --------------------------- Tutorial videos in which the most common operations are demonstrated are available at https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/videos.htm or on our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@crystal_impact A comprehensive online help can either be displayed on the web https://www.crystalimpact.de/match/help/idh_toc.htm or using the "Help" menu from within the software. Likewise, you can download a comprehensive manual either from the web https://www.crystalimpact.de/download/match3/Manual.pdf from within Match! using the menu ("Help-Manual"), or directly by double-clicking on the file "Manual.pdf" in Match!'s program directory. Finally, there are two basic keyboard shortcuts you should always keep in mind: (Cmd+? on the Mac) will open the online help at the index page, so that you can easily search for information about a given keyword/issue. will display a table of all mouse operations and keyboard shortcuts that can be used. Using these two shortcuts, you should be able to clarify most issues and questions. 8. Online Update ---------------- By default, Match! automatically checks the Crystal Impact web server for a more recent version each time it is executed. If a new version is found, you will be informed and guided to the corresponding web page from which you can download the new version. You can also manually check for a more recent version, simply by selecting the "Check for updates..." command from the "Help" menu. The procedure will be the same as the one described above for the automatic update. 9. Uninstalling Match! ---------------------- You can uninstall Match! by running the command sudo /opt/Match3/uninstall Please check/correct the directory in which Match! is installed on your machine. You will be asked if you would like to unregister your license from the current computer. If you click "Yes", your license will be removed, if you click "No", it will be kept and used when installing Match! on the current computer again. 10. Unregister license --------------------- Normally, you unregister your license when uninstalling Match! from the computer (see above). If you would like to manually unregister your license but keep your Match! installation, please do the following: Open a terminal window, then enter the following command: sudo /opt/Match3/Match unregister Enter your "root" password if required. 11. Support ----------- In case of any trouble with Match!, please send an e-mail to putz@crystalimpact.de Describe the issue in detail, and attach any files that may be required to reproduce your matter of concern to your e-mail. 12.
